Which class should you play in Classic Era?

Classic Era offers 9 classes across 8 races and 40 race and class combinations. Paladin is an Alliance choice and Shaman is a Horde choice. A healer preference therefore produces different choices for the two factions. Hardcore uses these same race and class combinations; this picker does not rank survival odds.

How the class suggestions work

Classic role and faction choices are requirements: an Alliance healer search cannot return Shaman. Damage style, solo help, group utility and race appearance then each contribute one matching answer. No preference contributes nothing, and classes with equal matches are all shown. A Human preference can move Priest ahead of Druid, but it does not imply stronger healing. The result lists every matched answer and any tradeoffs.

A healer choice worked through

Choose healer and Alliance. There are 3 healing classes on this faction. The best matches are Druid, Paladin and Priest.

Druid matches healer, Alliance. Its healing tree is Restoration.

A tank label means the class has talents supporting that role. It does not promise a raid spot. Classic Paladin has a Protection tree with Holy Shield, but a dungeon tanking choice and a raid main tank choice need different judgment. Decide which content you want to play before committing to a build.

Roles and talent trees in Classic Era

Classic Druid spans all offered roles: Bear Form tanking, Restoration healing and Feral or Balance damage. Warrior and Paladin also have tank and damage builds, with Holy adding healing for Paladin. These labels describe capabilities, not equal raid demand. Matching a role still requires suitable talents and equipment.

Compare playable races and racials

At level 60, these racial examples can help you compare the Classic races beyond appearance. Priest adds another consideration: Dwarf has Fear Ward, while Undead has Devouring Plague. Those abilities appear only on Priest suggestions. The preferred race comes first in each class's race list, followed by alphabetical choices. Open a racial tooltip to judge its use for your own content; it adds no hidden ranking bonus.

Common mistakes when choosing a main

Do not pick an Alliance race and plan to become a Shaman, or a Horde race and plan to become a Paladin. Self healing and pet companions are different kinds of solo comfort. Try each preference and read the matched talent before choosing between a hybrid and a pet class.

Open the Classic talent calculator for your preferred class to see how many of the matched talents fit one build. Copy your answers to discuss a dungeon or Hardcore character with friends before choosing a main.
